A bit about the book
Civil War/Historical fiction. A young man comes back from fighting in the war to find that his home and plantation have been burned down by General Sherman. The book is about dealing with loss, while wrapped up in a shiny fictional book.
A bit about the design
The first thing I thought: fire. I also wanted to make it look pretty classical, so I chose a classy looking serif font and some old paper for the imagery. I then just took a modern house and screened it back over the paper and photoshopped in some burned areas.
A few people know about my fiasco with the design, but I feel it needs to be told again. I actually had the idea to cut out a construction paper house and set it on fire. I didn't really think about needing to stamp out the fire, so I didn't wear shoes. I was doing this in my backyard. Well, needless to say, I needed to stamp out the fire, but I didn't want to burn my feet. So I decided I would rush the burning piece of paper to the back porch where it could burn out safely.
All work is ©Me, Tate Publishing, and the author who wrote the book.

THIS is the cause of the famous backyard conflagration? Haha! I like it, though; very classy!
